I felt proud to be chosen to represent Wesley College at this event.

Hi, my name is Husanpreet Kaur, and I am a Year 12 student at Wesley College. I recently had the opportunity to attend the Emerging Ethnic Leaders Breakfast in Mt Wellington. I was the only student representing Wesley College, and there were students from several other schools as well.

We were given the opportunity to attend because of the leadership, responsibility and reliability we have shown in our schools, our commitment to aiming for excellence, our achievements, and the way we represent our schools in the wider community. I felt proud to be chosen to represent Wesley College at this event.

The morning began with an Arabic karakia and welcoming remarks. We then heard from Maree Jeurissen, Manager of ESOL, Refugee and Migrant Education, followed by the first presentation of certificates. Rohan Jaduram from Welcoming Communities also gave an address. One of the highlights for me was listening to a student speaker, Ahaan, who gave a very impressive and inspiring speech. We also heard from Jason Swann, Director of Education at Tamaki Herenga Waka.

There was a presentation of certificates and acknowledgements. I received a certificate and a badge, which made me feel proud and special because it recognised the effort I have put into being a responsible and reliable student leader and representing Wesley College. Being there also reminded me that leadership is not only about what we do in school, but also about how we represent our school and contribute to the community.

I really enjoyed the experience. The breakfast was delicious, and there were lots of friendly and enjoyable moments throughout the morning. It was a great opportunity to meet students from different schools, hear their experiences, and learn from other young leaders. I felt grateful to be included and proud to represent Wesley College at an event celebrating young ethnic leaders.
