We are excited to announce an evening for parents to attend our Strategic Planning 2027-2029 and Parent Workshop Evening.
As part of our Strategic Planning process, we would normally invite parents and whaanau to share their thoughts on the future direction of Wesley College. This year, we wanted to add further value by combining that consultation with a series of practical workshops for families.
Many parents have told us they would appreciate simple, practical strategies to help support their children at home. With young people facing a range of challenges and opportunities, we believe the best outcomes come when home and school work together.
This evening will provide an opportunity to contribute to our 2027-2029 Strategic Plan, while also learning more about study skills, wellbeing, attendance, cybersafety, and future pathways. It is the first time we have offered an event in this format, and we are keen to gauge community interest and feedback.
We hope you find the evening both informative and valuable, and we thank you for your ongoing partnership in supporting the success and wellbeing of our young people.
EVENING FORMAT:
Strategic Planning Session (5:45pm - 6:30pm) Chapel:
Community input into the 2027-2029 Strategic Plan.
Parent Workshops :
6.30pm - 7.00pm Workshop Session 1
7.00pm - 7.30pm Workshop Session 2
Dinner: (7:30pm - 8:00pm)
An opportunity for fellowship and further discussion with staff and families.
PARENT WORKSHOPS:
1. Study Skills: Learn practical ways to help students:
· How to Study effectively at home
· Stay organised
· Prepare for assessments and exams
2. Career Pathways: Trades & University Information about:
· University, Apprenticeships and trades options
· How Gateway works at school
· Pathways beyond school
3. Cybersafety & Online Wellbeing: Guidance for parents on:
· Social media use
· Online safety risks
· Supporting healthy digital habits
4. Mental Wellbeing & Anxiety: Practical advice on:
· Understanding teenage wellbeing
· Recognising anxiety
· Supporting young people effectively
5. Encouraging Regular Attendance: Tips and strategies to:
· Understand what regular attendance looks like and why it matters
· Explore how whaanau can support good attendance
· Learn more our STAR attendance approach · Share your feedback and ideas
